This photo of Gros Morne was taken just after sunrise in the morning light, illuminating its south face and accentuating its unique "facial" expression. Its lonely persona is enhanced by its treeless features, and in fact it is quite a reflective mountain. In the early morning the blues of the sky are reflected on the glow of the snow, and likewise in the summer, the pink sky of a sunset can be seen reflected off it's bare quartzite rock face. The trees in the foreground are about 2km away from my camera, and about 5km away from the base of the mountain, giving the illusion that Gros Morne is shown closer than it actually is, which in turn illustrates the massive size of this special rock.
