On January 10, 1877, a fixed red light pierced the night sky for the first time from a newly built lighthouse at Cape St Francis, Newfoundland. A lot of change has occurred since then but a light still burns marking the southern entrance to Conception Bay and warning of the dangerous waters off the cape.
