The SS. Kyle, also known as the "bulldog of the north".
She was a vessel used primarily as a passenger, cargo and icebreaker ship taking people and their goods to and from northern Labrador from Carbonear. However, she was later used during WWII to ferry soldiers to the mainland and then as a search and rescue ship after an aircraft went down off the coast. After she struck an iceberg some years later, she was moored in Harbour Grace for repairs. During a storm, she was ripped from her moorings and became grounded in Riverhead, Harbour Grace. Still there to this day, she remains to be a symbol of Harbour Grace and the pride of the history of Newfoundland.
